Assignment 1 ,exercise 2 of 3- “Response to Karlo Mila’s reading perspective”

Moana, a 2016 film produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios. The movie were starring by Auli’i Cravalho as Moana and features the voices of Dwayne Johnson, Rachel House, Temuera Morrison, Jemaine Clement, Nicole Scherzinger, and Alan Tudyk. It is a movie about story of Polynesian Culture. There are pros and cons during the movie release.

Firstly, it cannot be denied that a movie with cultural genre will get so many critics and refutation. For instance, there are many proof can be seen in a movie based on novel story and got many changes during the production. The books usually took dozen of hours to finish it meanwhile in the movie they only have to summarize it into less than 2 hours. So I think that it is the same goes to cultural based movie. I believe that the massive production team like Walt Disney is doing the best research as they can to not to offend the culture.

Secondly, some people believe that the Māui’s character is a failure since of his body is round and obese character. However, In fact that a Polynesians character such as Tonga , a Polynesia ethnic, which is known as warrior and strong people. They believe that the bigger you are, the more prestigious and beautiful you are. Fat is an interesting character/feature. Many Polynesian athlete with big body such as Dwayne Johnson (Pro wrestler and Hollywood actor), Mark hunt (World Championship Grand Prix K-1), David Tua (Heavyweight boxer). Moreover, Taufa’ahau Tupou IV,Tonga’s king has 203 cm height and weigh 210 kg. In 1976, he made a Guiness World Records as heaviest king in the world.

In Conclusion, I could not agree more that The Walt Disney is making a huge impact in movie industry by giving a beautiful and awesome visual graphic which is better than previous movie such as Frozen, Big Hero 6 and Zootopia. Nothing is perfect since every creation has some flaws.
